Juni Cosmetics - Lipstick Review

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

I purchased the Juni cosmetics lipstick in the shade elise (no.4) which is available on their website here. Alternatively, the rest of the capsule collection bullet lipsticks are available on the Juni cosmetics website here.

Juni cosmetics are a super sustainable brand. Currently, they only produce the bullet capsule lipstick collection, but it would be interesting to see if they expand. The bullet lipstick packaging is made from 100% aluminium metal. On their website, they mention how they chose aluminium because it is one of the most recycled materials on the planet and can be recycled an infinite amount of times! Furthermore, all their mailing materials are plastic-free, and even their suppliers ship to them plastic-free. They're also a vegan company founded by a vegan, and their formulas are all organic, fragrance-free and GM-free.

I initially found Juni cosmetics through Instagram, thanks to Incredibusy, and purposefully followed them/made a note of the brand. I knew I wanted to purchase a lipstick from them at a later date (when my student loan dropped). I think Juni cosmetics were the first plastic-free makeup brand I was introduced to, actually.

I purchased the shade No.4 Elise, which is described as a muted red. I think if I were to buy another one, I would get the pale pink shade No.1, Maple or the bright red No.5, Lola. The lipstick is beautiful. I think its the best lipstick I've ever owned. Before purchasing this, I usually used makeup revolution or NYX lipsticks and creams. It applies really nice because it has a hydrating formula it doesn't show any cracks on my lips and just sits on them really flawlessly. It also has excellent wear, it stays on with minimal reapplication. I'd love if there were a matching lip liner for these shades as I don't currently have a lip liner that works well with the shade I purchased.

I love this lipstick so much, and I can't find a single flaw with the product itself. My only issue is the price. It is worth noting that Juni does advertise itself as a luxury brand, so I don't think I'm their target audience. Unfortunately, they're just not what I'm looking for at this stage of my sustainable journey when I'm trying to find accessible alternatives to encourage everyone to make those small steps. I read something the other day along the lines of; we don't need a few people being perfectly sustainable, we need loads of people being imperfectly sustainable. That being said, when I finish my degree and actually have ££££, this is a brand I would go back to and would love to support because I do like the product. If you have the disposable income for luxury products or just fancy treating yourself, then I think you'll find Juni cosmetics the perfect match. The product itself deserves the 5/5 stars, but it comes at a cost.

If you know of any other vegan, plastic-free lipsticks (or any makeup), please do message me your suggestions on Instagram!

EDIT: Since writing this Juni Cosmetics reached out to me to let me know that they are looking to expand their range of products and that some will be at a lower price point! Woo!
