Leaf Shave - The Leaf Razor Review

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

Leaf Shave's razor collection is available from their website here.

Leaf Shave are an American company that produce razors and shaving accessories. All their razors and accessories are plastic-free as they're completely made from metal and their shave soap is vegan too! Leaf Shave claim that as a result of their razor sales, customers have kept 1.5 million disposable plastic razors out of the ground. Alongside all their packaging being plastic-free, Leaf Shave also measure their carbon footprint (including emissions from delivery) so that they can offset it. As I'm based in the UK and Leaf Shave are in the US, this is relieving to know. Leaf shave are a carbon-neutral company, they also support climate action non-profit work.

An individual Leaf Shave razor, specifically 'The Leaf Razor' will cost $84, so roughly £60. I purchased two of 'The Leaf Kits', which are $113 each (roughly £80), and chose one razor in chrome and one in rose gold. The kit comes with the razor itself, a razor stand, a 50 blade refill pack and a blade recycling tin. Leaf Shave do produce another razor, 'The Twig Razor', at a lower cost. This razor is more like the classic plastic-free safety razors you may have seen. However, I already had a safety razor that I didn't particularly get on well with (review coming soon). I was also keen to try 'The Leaf Razor' as it can hold 3-blades and has a pivoting head, safety razors usually have neither. The Leaf Razor is a much more similar replacement to a classic plastic razor you may buy in a shop.

I love 'The Leaf Razor'. I find the weight of it (being metal) helps with a close shave). For me, it works exactly like a classic razor, not like one of those Bic disposable ones either, but like an actual decent razor. I've not experienced any cuts from it. The blades are easy to change and refill. I also love the way it looks. My boyfriend, who I bought the second razor for also agreed it looked cool. He finds it slightly harder to shave his face with. I think it might be a him problem rather than a razor problem but he disagrees...

My only issue with the Leaf Shave razor is the price; they are expensive. I can understand why this is as the design is very innovative, however, it isn't yet super accessible. I think one of the last plastic razors I bought was around a tenner and the disposable heads were then like around £7 for four. Obviously 'The Leaf Razor' is a lot more than this, even the cheaper 'Twig Razor' is around £40. The blades aren't such a bad comparison however, you can get 50 Leaf Shave blades for just over £8 or 100 blades for just over £13. I believe if you kept the Leaf Shave razor for a long time, which I plan to do, eventually you'll begin to save money on the replacement heads/blades. Understandably, not everyone has £60 odd quid spare for a razor. However, if you are able to afford the Leaf Shave razor then it is the best plastic-free shave I have found yet and I would highly recommend the investment! Leaf Shave, without a doubt, gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. I plan to keep this razor for years to get the best value out of it and just because it is such a good find!

If anyone else knows of any other plastic-free & vegan hair removal products I can try please do message me them on Instagram! I've been thinking of trying sugaring...

To end here are some fun eco facts I've pulled off the Leaf Shave website:

  • If everyone in the US switched to plastic-free shaving:

  • 3 billion disposables would be kept out of landfill each year

  • 25,000 tons of packaging waste would be eliminated every year

  • 1 million tons of C02 emissions would be eliminated annually
