The Golden Cap solid naked conditioner bar is available in-store at Lush or online here!
This is the third, and final, conditioner bar from Lush that I've tried. You can find my previous reviews of the American cream conditioner bar here and of the Big conditioner bar here. This may be spoilers, but this one is my favourite. Before trying the Golden Cap, I knew I preferred Big to American cream, but I think the Golden Cap takes first place. It is the same price as American cream (50p more expensive than Big). On the Lush website, it states that this bar is supposed to strengthen the hair using vegan stout. I prefer this one because I do find that the results leave my hair way more conditioned. I also love the smell of it!
As I have with all the Lush pressed conditioner bars, I chose to melt this one down to be able to use it how I like. Otherwise, I find I can't get enough of the product onto my hair. If you read my other two reviews, you can see this is a reoccurring theme with the bars. I don't know if this is the case with all conditioner bars or just the ones from Lush. Next, I will try some bars from other companies to have a comparison. Out of all the Lush conditioner bars, I would recommend trying this bar if you're looking for a vegan, plastic-free conditioner. Then you can make up your own mind on it. I also would recommend melting it down! This is my method:
I use an empty plastic pot I have kept from a Morrocan Oil hair mask. Chop the conditioner bar up into the pot and then fill it with boiling water, so it is about three-quarters full. Then, add a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil, this can be as much or as little as you like really. Mix it all together and then microwaved it in 10 second periods until it has melted into one smooth consistency. This liquid mixture can then be used as a "normal" liquid conditioner. I like to leave it on for a little longer than I might otherwise.
I like this conditioner but I'm not sure if I'd buy it again, I think I might be able to find better alternative. It smells nice, and when it is melted down, it works great, and Lush is readily available. I also like it because it works with the Shrine drop it hair dye that I use. Unlike other plastic-free conditioners that work well but don't easily come in liquid forms, such as Beauty Kubes. The reason why I can only give this bar 3/5 stars is that I don't love the hassle of having to melt it down myself to get it to work. Otherwise, this is a decent conditioner. I'd give it a mid-range price rating, at £9 it isn't super affordable, but it isn't a luxury product either. I may come back to it in the future, depending on how the rest of my sustainable conditioner hunt goes!
